The Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrated Uwharrie Bank with a ribbon cutting for its new office in Mount Pleasant, marking a new chapter for a community bank with deep roots in the area.
While the building may be new, Uwharrie Bank’s commitment to Mt. Pleasant is not. The bank has proudly served the community for many years, building lasting relationships and investing in the people and businesses that make the town special.
The new office reflects that continued commitment, bringing together Uwharrie Bank’s history, community focus, and modern approach to banking.
Rooted in History
Uwharrie Bank was founded in 1983 during a period when community banks across the country were facing increasing acquisition and consolidation.
In response, a group of local leaders came together with a shared goal: keeping local capital at home and bringing financial independence back to local communities.
An organizing group led by Roger Dick, CEO, and his banking mentor, Leonard Mabry, met in Albemarle on April 26, 1983. The meeting began with a prayer and a request for divine guidance, reflecting the founding group’s commitment to building a bank rooted in the community.
A stock offering was then made to a broad base of local residents. The founders sought investors who shared an interest in building local wealth and strengthening the community rather than simply speculating on a small bank stock.
That community-focused foundation continues to influence Uwharrie Bank today.
A Longstanding Mt. Pleasant Connection
Uwharrie Bank’s relationship with Mt. Pleasant and Cabarrus County dates back more than two decades.
Plans began in 2002 to bring community banking back to Cabarrus County through Cabarrus Bank and Trust. That same year, Uwharrie Bank, formerly known as Bank of Stanly, purchased the historic Ludwig House in Mt. Pleasant and became a member of the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The bank’s new office builds on that history while providing a modern space designed to serve today’s customers and community.
Its guiding message captures the vision behind the new location:
Rooted in History, Inspired by Community, Designed for Today.
Full-Service Community Banking
Uwharrie Bank provides full-service financial solutions through its community banking, mortgage, and wealth management divisions.
As a community bank, Uwharrie focuses on building relationships with the individuals, families, businesses, and organizations it serves.
The new Mt. Pleasant office represents an investment in the future while honoring the history and people who have played an important role in Uwharrie Bank’s story.
Recognized for Strength
Uwharrie Bank’s community banking approach has also earned recognition within the banking industry.
In 2025, American Banker ranked Uwharrie Bank 12th among the top 20 public banks with less than $2 billion in assets, an improvement of two spots from the previous year.
The recognition reflects the bank’s continued growth and performance while maintaining the community-focused values that have been part of its identity since its founding.
Investing in the Future
For Uwharrie Bank, the new Mt. Pleasant office is more than a new building. It represents a continued investment in a community where the bank has established deep roots over many years.
The Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce congratulates Uwharrie Bank on its new Mt. Pleasant office and celebrates the bank’s continued commitment to community banking, local relationships, and the future of the region.
