Vulcan Materials Company demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by achieving WHC Certification, powered by Tandem Global for its wildlife habitat projects at their Gold Hill Quarry in Cabarrus & Rowan Counties, North Carolina.
The Gold Hill program was designated as Certified Silver, signifying leadership among the over 600 WHC Certification programs. Programs are given a Certified, Silver Certified or Gold Certified designation.
Vulcan Materials Company’s Gold Hill Quarry site encompasses 560 acres in Gold Hill, North Carolina, about an hour northeast of Charlotte. The quarry produces construction aggregates for use in the local market for commercial and public projects. The habitat includes many native plant species, including habitat for native avian species. It also features a wetland area with plentiful wildlife. The site is home to native osprey, wild turkey, wood ducks and eastern bluebirds that utilize the habitat and provided nesting areas as migratory stopovers and annual breeding grounds.
