Renovations are currently underway at Veterans Park, located at 4281 NC Highway 49 in Harrisburg, North Carolina. The project focuses on improving the park’s infrastructure, accessibility, and appearance, while continuing to honor the legacy of local veterans.
Enhancing the visitor experience for all ages
The renovations are designed to preserve the park’s historical significance and enhance the visitor experience for all ages. Key features of the project include:
- Replacement of the concrete pad and military medallions around the central fountain.
- Removal of aging pebble stone walkways, replaced with decorative stamped concrete.
- Rehabilitation of six existing charters of freedom document display monuments and the addition of two new displays.
- Installation of two new medallions honoring the United States Space Force and POW/MIA service members.
- Resealing and relining of the existing fountain.
- Construction of a new stairway connecting the park to the sidewalk along Highway 49.
- Landscaping improvements include new trees and shrubs, lawn conversions, mulch installation, and an expanded irrigation system.
The Town of Harrisburg has allocated $370,000 from the General Fund for this project, which is expected to be completed by November 2025.
“We are a very patriotic Town, and Veterans Park holds special meaning for so many in our community. This project ensures it remains a place of reflection and connection for years to come,” said Town Manager Rob Donham. “I want to thank our Town Council for making this investment and for their ongoing commitment to honoring our Veterans and our history while creating a more welcoming, accessible experience for all.”
Portions of Veterans Park may be temporarily closed during construction. Project updates will be shared regularly on the Town of Harrisburg’s Facebook page and at HarrisburgNC.gov.
