For 73 years, Ellis Jewelers has called 29 Union Street South in Downtown Concord home. This September, the family-owned jeweler is celebrating that milestone by saying thank you to the community that has supported it for generations.

The Ellis Jewelers story began in 1953 when Ellis Levison returned home from the Army with a dream of opening his own jewelry store. Newly married, he borrowed $1,000 from his father, secured additional financing from the bank, and took a chance on that dream. On July 23, 1953, Ellis Jewelers opened its doors, and 73 years later, those doors are still opening in the very same building.

From the beginning, the Levison family built the store around the same values that defined their family: honesty, integrity, personal relationships and a commitment to taking care of others. Those values have remained at the heart of Ellis Jewelers for more than seven decades, creating a legacy of love and community that extends far beyond jewelry.

“To still be here, in the same building 73 years later, is incredible,” said Dan Levison, owner and Dream Maker. “But we wouldn’t be here without this community. Concord has taken care of our family, and we’ve always tried to take care of this community in return.”

That commitment to Concord has taken many forms over the years. Ellis Jewelers has used special events and fundraising efforts to support local organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus County and The Community Free Clinic. The store has also encouraged the next generation of creativity through jewelry design contests for local students and has remained a longtime advocate for shopping small and supporting locally owned businesses.

Over the decades, generations of customers have trusted Ellis Jewelers to be part of engagements, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and countless other milestones. Jewelry purchased years ago has become family heirlooms, carrying stories, love and memories from one generation to the next.
